By the time actual Halloween Day rolled around, Jeffrey was quite the mess. I had thrown away most of his candy, but he had already eaten quite a bit at the different events, and he was hoarding what I had let him keep inside a plastic pumpkin. Saturday night he woke up several times calling for his pumpkin.
Since Halloween was a Sunday this year, Arabelle wore a Halloween themed outfit to church. For trick-or-treating, Arabelle was Eeyore and Jeffrey was Buzz again, of course. Trick-or-treating culture is alive and well in downtown Berthoud, which I think is really fun. Lots of people get really into it, and there are some intense decorations. Some are fun and some are scary...
This is an awful picture of them, but it was the best I got. Jeffrey's eyes suddenly got really puffy Sunday afternoon. I still don't know if it was an allergy, or some cold/sinus thing, but it just seemed par for the course after all the late nights and candy gluttony.
Jeffrey got tons of compliments on his costume. He mostly refused to say "trick-or-treat", but he did go up to people's doors and politely and unintelligibly yell, "Open the door!" He made an effort to turn on his costume's lights before each visit.
Eeyore quickly fell asleep and enjoyed being carried around.
We ran into Buzz's friend Woody, and they were quite enamored with each others' costumes
Jeffrey really enjoyed passing out some candy to tweens and teenagers when we got home.

If Jeffrey's costume looks ripped that's because it is. (Long tangent on the Buzz costume: I knew Jeffrey would love being Buzz Lightyear, and I knew he would appreciate the quality costume with the light up wings rather than the cheap Wal-Mart body suit one. I spent weeks browsing Ebay trying to find a good price on a used one, before deciding they were all going for just a few bucks less than the new ones at the Disney Store online. So I finally worked up the nerve to get the costume, I put it in my "shopping cart" on the web-page, and then had to leave to take Jeffrey to school. I returned home to find that said costume had been removed from my "cart" because apparently all the other moms had come to the same realization about the Buzz costumes at the same time as I had because the costume had just sold out! Knowing this, I knew that the prices on ebay would sky rocket, so I hurried over and bought one new for more than what they had been selling for at the Disney Store. After much anticipation, the costume finally arrived, but to my grave disappointment, the lights were no longer functioning! Apparently this Buzz costume although "new with tags" was left over from Toy Story 1 because the batteries were corroded. Luckily John was able to scrape and clean the batteries and then fix the wires somehow with a paper clip and we got 2 out of 3 lights functioning. I paid more than I am proud of for the costume, and it did rip after being worn a couple of times, but they did end up going for way more on ebay after the sellers realized they were a sold out item, and Jeffrey definitely appreciated the functioning lights as I knew he would!
At the end of the night, the one thing Jeffrey chose to eat was an apple given to him by a kindly old lady. Clearly the treat decadence had reached new heights when Jeffrey ignored the bucket of candy preferring instead a wholesome apple. He did not eat a single piece of candy that night, but did completely finish the apple. We got Jeffrey to bed, turned off all the lights, and breathed a huge sigh of relief. The end of a fun several days of Halloweening!
